I was recently given ‘The 5 Pillars of Guaranteed Business Success’ which is written by Dr Greg Chapman, by a business coach of mine. It’s a short little book, succinct and to the point. But so full of practical things that need to be covered off regularly by business owners, that I feel like it’s one of the best books I read this year.
Here’s the main points I’ve learnt:
Learning never ends
I love learning, so don’t want it to end. But I thought I would continue to learn the technicalities of my profession. The learning for business itself has been huge, and you keep learning. You may hear the same thing a few times, but until you’re ready to actually understand it, you need to keep hearing it.
Business planning probably needs to be done every 6 months, if not more regularly
As my business is changing and growing quite quickly, doing a business plan every year is not enough. Even 6 monthly may not be enough, because I need to reassess my SWOT, my cashflow forecast, and my marketing strategy every time there’s a small change.
Staff and people systems are crucial
Frustrating how long this is taking me to learn! I feel like I am a leader who should lead by example, but it’s not enough! Just read the book, and you’ll understand!!!
