    You Have Time

    by admin February 25, 2018

It’s interesting – the more we say to ourselves that we ‘don’t have enough time’ to do everything we need to in a day, the more likely it is to be true.

The truth is that there’s always going to be more to do. You’re never going to have everything done. And this is a good thing, because it give us purpose.

Instead, say you yourself throughout your day that ‘there’s enough time for the important things in my life’.

Then, whilst you’re saying to yourself that there is enough time, you also need to prioritise the things that you need to do in a particular day. If you have 20 things to do, but you say to yourself that if you get the top 5 done, then you’ll be happy – any extra is a bonus and you’ll really feel like you’ve succeeded!

So that is my practical advice. Now to some reality checks …

Time is obviously a manmade device – a unit to measure us travelling through our lives. It is because we experience time this way, that we measure it this way. But the scientific reality is very different.

Many physicists believe that time does not exist. Like Einstein hypothesised, time cannot exist without space, and therefore there is a block of space-time that can be divided up in a number of ways and one could potentially move backwards and forwarded through it. They suggest that time is a convenient illusion for how we move through our lives.

Others describe time as only existing in the very moment in which we find ourselves – like frames of the universe, or capsules of time – and that time doesn’t actually run together continuously.

What everyone agrees on, is that time seems real. And many also believe that time is also speeding up. But if these are actually just how our brain interprets the universe, and it’s not actually the truth, then … maybe we can slow time down.

Maybe each of us has the ability to believe that we have plenty of time, to enjoy each moment more, to be present in each ‘capsule’ of time, and hence get everything done in the day. If we could look back on a successful day, getting lots of things done, we could actually appreciate how long the day actually was … then we may change our perception of time and our reality will change!
